7 hotel d astier de Montfaucon grd

This mansion was built to support the remains of the old ramparts. It was built in the 17th century by the Astier de Montfaucon family, Languedoc barons who usually resided in Carpentras. Charming residence inspired by Italian achievements, this second home is decorated with a loggia opening onto an enclosed garden dominating the landscape. In the garden, there is a back-to-back fountain with a sculpted mask and a well, as well as the family coat of arms carved in stone.

A monumental main staircase with straight flights and square balusters leads to the first floor where there is an alcove bedroom which preserves the remains of painted polychrome decorations. The ground floor is completely covered with groin vaults.

Bought by the municipality, the Hôtel d´Astier became a hospital in 1751. In the 19th century, the hospice was enriched with a teaching function provided by the Nuns of the Conception who also looked after the sick. The building housed the village school until 1953. Listed as a historical monument in 1996, it has undergone restoration work before being occupied since 2004 by the Maison de la Truffe et du Vin du Luberon, public space dedicated to the promotion of truffle culture and local viticulture.
